This work is a three-dimensional representation of a phoenix that Katsushika Hokusai created as a ceiling painting for Gansho-in Temple in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, where he stayed in his later years, and depicts it escaping from the painting and breathing inside a crystal ball. It was created by Nagano-born sculptor Wakui Akira after repeated research and trial and error since 2017. The three-dimensional phoenix was created using the latest 3D technology, and with the technical cooperation of the global company Stratasys, it has been completed as a tangible work of Katsushika Hokusai.
