Hokusai Phoenix Crystal sphere

This work is a three-dimensional representation of a phoenix that was originally painted as a ceiling painting at Iwamatsu-in Temple in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture, where Katsushika Hokusai stayed in his later years. It is a representation of the phoenix escaping from the painting and breathing in a crystal ball. It was created by Nagano-born sculptor Akira Wakui after repeated research and trial and error since 2017. The three-dimensional phoenix was created using the latest 3D technology, and with the technical cooperation of Stratasys, a global company, it has been completed as a tangible work of Katsushika Hokusai. This 13cm-sized work is owned by Iwamatsu-in Temple, where the actual ceiling painting is located, but is only available for order on this site.
