本展は、北斎の波を出発点とし、

 その造形に導かれるように始まった一連の作品群の軌跡です。

 制作を進めるなかで、「波」が意味するものは拡張し、

 自然の運動、身体の感覚、視覚文化の様式、そして記憶や祈りの在り方へと

 作家の思考は波のように広がり、また収束していきました。

それぞれの作品には、その時々の思考と感覚が刻まれています。

 本展は、その変遷とともに形づくられた「波の記録」であり、

 変容し続ける世界の中で、かたちを得た思索の集積です。

This pair of shoes was created in 2025 by artist Akira Wakui to commemorate the exhibition *Wave Transitions*, held at the Hokusai Museum in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture—the place where Katsushika Hokusai spent his final years.

The shoes feature high-resolution prints of details from Wakui’s original acrylic paintings on canvas. These paintings were photographed and reproduced on the canvas fabric used for the shoes.

A wave is not merely a movement of water—  

It marks the moment when a formless *force* or *thought* manifests as a phenomenon.  

Encountering Hokusai’s waves, what appeared before me was  

an energy of motion that transcends time and context, still alive and pulsing.  

This exhibition begins with Hokusai’s waves as a starting point,  

tracing the trajectory of a series of works that emerged as if guided by that form.  

As the creation progressed, the meaning of "wave" expanded—  

into the rhythms of nature, sensations of the body, styles of visual culture,  

and even the presence of memory and prayer.  

Like waves themselves, the artist's thoughts expanded and converged.  

Each work bears the imprint of the thoughts and sensations of its time.  

This exhibition is a *record of waves*, shaped by these transformations—  

a collection of reflections that have taken form amid an ever-changing world.
