This piece is a three-dimensional representation of a phoenix originally painted by the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The painting was created as a ceiling mural during his later years at Iwamatsuin Temple in Obuse, Nagano Prefecture. The sculptural transformation of the phoenix, emerging from the ceiling and coming to life within a crystal orb, was meticulously crafted by Akira Wakui, a sculptor born in Nagano. After extensive research and experimentation starting in 2017, this piece utilizes cutting-edge 3D technology. It was completed with the collaboration of Stratasys, a global leader in 3D printing technology, rendering it a tangible work of Hokusai that one can hold. This 13-centimeter piece is housed at Iwamatsuin Temple but is available exclusively for order on this site.
Delivery of the artwork will take about one month from the time of order.
